Unilever’s Fair & Lovely Alliance and DFWAC showcase highlights of successful partnership program
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 1, 2012 – Unilever’s Fair & Lovely and the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) today announced the success of their joint vocational training program.
Senior members of Unilever and DFWAC were present today at a press conference in Kempinski Hotel Dubai to showcase the women’s latest achievements obtained through their participation in the program and announce the extension of the partnership. Instituted in 2010, the program which was set up to help empower female victims of violence has seen 92% of women in the Foundation participate in this program. The range of sessions implemented within the program have included: English language lessons; arts and crafts; sewing; physical activity and hair and make-up with classes being conducted every quarter.
Set up with the objective of making the world a fairer place for women who have been victims of abuse and violence in Dubai, the partnership has sought to restore the confidence and self-esteem in victims of violence and in turn, empower them through education, employment and the provision of life-skills training to realize their potential to achieve success.
Speaking at the press conference today, Mr. Madhusudhan Rao, Vice President Marketing, Unilever NAME of Unilever Gulf, said: “The work done in empowering these victims of violence stems from Unilever’s commitment towards contributing positively towards the communities we operate in. At Unilever we strongly believe that education is a key pillar that can help empower women by making them capable and thus restoring their self esteem. Unilever is proud to have partnered with DFWAC, a foundation that displays true passion and drive to help women who are victims of domestic violence.”
Additionally, Mrs. Afra Al Basti, Director General of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, said: “With the empowerment of women at its core, DFWAC was able to partner with Unilever through its Fair & Lovely Alliance and align both organizations’ objectives under a common goal: to protect, educate and rebuild the esteem of less fortunate women in Dubai.
The two year partnership was an absolute success and we were humbled to see the victims of violence at the Foundation developing life-long skills that will allow them to provide for themselves and families. We are privileged to partner with the Fair & Lovely Alliance and look forward to a bright future where women are nurtured and empowered to rediscover themselves.”
