Our highest priorities

As one of the largest food businesses, we create and market food enjoyed by millions of people around the world every day. 

That means we can make a big impact on people’s health - a responsibility that we take very seriously. 

But then health and nutrition have always been among our highest priorities. Even back in the early 20th Century, the companies that founded Unilever were among the first to add vitamins to margarine to make it more nutritious. We were also the first to identify that certain foods could help lower cholesterol. And today cutting edge research helps us constantly learn more about health and nutrition - expertise that we use to create nutritious foods that suit today’s tastes and lifestyles. 

Global & regional associations

We work with a range of international health organizations such as UNICEF on children’s health and development, the World Heart Foundation on cardiovascular health, the FDI World Dental Federation on oral hygiene and dental health and the World Health Organization on combating chronic diseases including obesity.

These global associations have helped us secure regional and local cross-sector collaborations and partnerships. For example, we have been able to secure partnerships with Arab professional dental societies across the region and have embarked on programs with them to encourage better oral health. In 2005 alone, Signal, in association with the Saudi Dental Society, launched the National Dental Hygiene Campaign which saw 72,000 people receive free dental checkups in addition to sponsoring many seminars, meetings and workshops for professional bodies.

Through out Egypt and the Levant, Signal has also conducted similar school campaigns since 2004 to increase awareness of the importance of oral hygiene and create a future generation that uses toothpaste contributing to raising the oral hygiene of the region.
