Developing talent
This project aims at developing talent in children aged between nine and 14 at its 22 sports development and training centres throughout the state.
The Rexona Centres of Excellence in Volleyball teach and encourage the practice of sports among young people and are reaching some 3 500 children. Since 1997, 5 000 children have participated. In their lessons, children learn not only the fundamentals of volleyball but are also given guidance in terms of playing, discipline and respect for rules.
A new centre was opened in São Paulo in December 2001.
Historically, the potential for social progress for the lower income groups in Brazil has been limited. The main objective of the Rexona Centre is to make the practice of sport more democratic and to provide children in state schools, who have little access to clubs and gyms, with the opportunity to experience, free of charge, a sports programme which gives them top class training.
The centre is the seedbed for new talent. It has also created job opportunities in construction, restoration and maintenance of sports facilities.
