Tasty meals without the tears

Getting back into the swing of things after the holiday season is enough of a struggle and the last thing you want to do is spend hours preparing dinner.

Chopping vegetablesEasy mealtime tips

Whether it's livening up a mid-week meal or picking up some time-saving tips, our handy hints will put you on the path to the ultimate meal.

Simple tricks to try at home include popping cheese into the freezer for a few minutes before grating as soft cheeses grate more easily if cold. Peel garlic cloves quickly by placing them on a cutting board and hitting firmly with the flat side of a large knife.

Early morning entertaining

Make a delicious Eggs Benedict breakfast to share with house guests using a packet of Knorr Hollandaise sauce mix and four eggs, poached and kept warm. Lightly spread toasted bread with margarine. Place the eggs and prosciutto ham on the toast, then top as desired with hollandaise sauce. Serve with mugs of hot Lipton Tea.

Make it sizzle

Slip herbs and spices under the skin of poultry before grilling or roasting. Before eating, you can discard the skin but still keep the flavour. Another way to liven up mid-week meals is to sprinkle Knorr Stock Granules onto a chicken before roasting for a delicious crispy skin, or sprinkle them into chicken stir fries while cooking.

Leftovers

Refrigerate cooked foods as soon as they stop steaming as cooling foods to room temperature before refrigerating encourages bacterial growth. When reheating leftovers, bring soups, sauces and gravies to a boil. Reheat other leftovers thoroughly until hot and steamy.
